How to get from Naples airport to Ravello

Naples airport is the nearest international airport to Ravello. Salerno’s airport is growing and there are some very limited flights there at the moment but in reality you would need to look at Naples as your destination airport.

As with all our other guides we recommend having some type of plan in place before you land in Naples as there is nothing worse than trying to action a plan when under stress or time constraints.

Below are all the options to how to get from Naples to Ravello. 

Option 1: Private car transfer from Naples airport to Ravello.

The “best” way to get from Naples to Ravello is by private car. In terms of comfort, speed and convenience then there isn’t really any better option.

The recommended option when arranging private car transfers is to book in advance i.e. at least a few days before you arrive at Naples airport. Always ensure you have the contact details of the driver who will be picking you up and sometimes it is also a good idea to have a Plan B so perhaps get the number of an alternative company that you can call should any unforseen incident prevent your booked driver from collecting you.

Please do NOT be tempted to jump into a taxi which is waiting at a taxi rank outside the arrivals hall at Naples airport. The airport taxis are ALWAYS expensive.

By using the roads then you could always be subject to road traffic condition being unfavourable. Heavy traffic, road closures or accidents along the way can add time to your journey.

Option 2: Take the train and then bus from Naples airport to Ravello

There is no direct train from Naples to Ravello but you can catch the train from Naples railway station (Napoli Centrale Garibaldi) to Sorrento and from Sorrento then catch a bus to Ravello but it’s really not a great option as you need to make a number of connections along the way and each leg of the journey takes some time to complete.

For this reason we believe there are much better options out there for you.

Option 3: Catch the ferry from Naples to Ravello.

There is a ferry from Naples Beverello port which goes to Amalfi and from there you can catch a taxi or bus to Ravello.

This option also requires a few connections along the way as you would need to find a way from Naples airport to the port at Beverello, a ferry to Amalfi and then a bus or taxi to Ravello.

Yes, you’re probably saving money compared to a private car transfer but there’s also an awful lot of hassle involved too.

You also need to be aware that some ferry services only run during the tourist season e.g. May to October.

The ferry from Naples to Amalfi costs around € 34.

You will need to add your transfer from Naples airport to Naples port as well as your transfer from Amalfi port to your place in Ravello.

How long does it take by ferry from Naples airport to Ravello (Amalfi)?

It’s around 2 hrs from Naples to Amalfi although please bear in mind that there might well be some waiting time for the next ferry yo depart so that would need to be considered. 

Pro’s

Probably the most scenic way to reach Ravello as you skirt the Amalfo coast by boat.

By choosing water over land you avoid any traffic hold ups on the roads. You can be pretty much guaranteed that your ferry journey will last approx 2 hrs. 

Con’s

Although ferries are not affected by road conditions they can be affected by bad weather. If you’re travelling during the tourist season then it’s unlikely this will happen but that doesn’t mean it can never happen.

Private car transfers charge you per vehicle rather than per passenger. Taking the ferry involves paying for each passenger individually on every leg of your journey.

Savings may not really come into effect if you are travelling with a large group. Private car/minibus transfer generally charge per vehicle whilst on a ferry you obviously need to buy tickets per person. 

Option 4: Catch the bus from Naples airport to Ravello.

There are limited bus options from Naples airport to Ravello.

The SITA bus runs from Naples to Minori but this involves a transfer from the airport to the bus stop to Varco Immacolatella and then a bus or taxi ride from Minoro to the centre of Ravello.

Prices for this bus are around € 7.

The Pintour shuttle bus is a more convenient option as it operates from Naples airport and takes you to the outskirts of Ravello. Prices are € 20.

Con’s

You are subject to road delays if traffic conditions are bad.

The shuttle bus only runs a few times a day so may not fit your arrival times perfectly.
