things to do in amalfi
Discover the best things to see and do in Amalfi whether that be marvelling at the history and architecture or simply enjoying the vibes from this beautiful Italian town.
Things to do in Amalfi
1. Visit the cathedral “Duomo di Sant’ Andrea”

The Duomo di Sant’Andrea otherwise known as Amalfi cathedral dominates the square on which it sits.
Being so close to the waterfront the cathedral is one of the main features of Amalfi that you come across as you step off the ferry and head into town.
The cathedral is beautiful, sitting atop a steep set of stone steps and the square below it is always packed full of tourists taking snaps of this Amalfi landmark.
A climb up the steps rewards the visitor with a breathtaking interior and a chance to admire the architecture of this multi styled building. Featuring styles from the Arab, Byzantine and Norman world alongside a typically Baroque interior the cathedral is a wonderful place to escape from the heat of Amalfi and just to experience the workmanship that went into creating this masterpiece.
Take special note of the bronze door which was brought to the town from Constantinople and dates back to 1066.
2. Enjoy a Michelin starred meal

Amalfi appears to be “filled” with Michelin star restaurants with a whopping total of FOUR different Michelin star restaurants in and around the town.
Yes, they might be expensive but if you want to splash out and embellish your holiday memories from the Amalfi coast then why not treat yourself to a gastronomic delight in a beautiful setting. The memories will last you a lifetime and only add to the ones you have of visiting this beautiful town.
Sensi, Glicine, La Caravella dal 1959 and Alici have all attained a Michelin star each but they are not the only ones in the area. On your travels to Positano, Ravello and other nearby towns it’s worth to check the Michelin guide to see what other restaurants have been given a rosette.
3. Take a boat ride

The Amalfi coast was made to be seen from the water. As beautiful as the coastal towns might be they look so much more beautiful from the blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea
There are plenty of options to do this whether it be to join an organised boat trip for half a day of full day or even charter your own boat with your own private skipper and go anywhere you want! There are even special “sunset cruises” which, as the name suggests, offers you the chance to watch the sun set from a boat.
Positano, Ravello, Atrani are just some of the places a boat can take you to but another advantage of seeing the Amalfi coast from a boat is the opportunity to explore some of the hidden coves and bays which are not easily accessible by car or on foot.
4. Relax and explore Amalfi

Almost contrary to the advice given above but one of our most recommended things to do in Amalfi is simply to enjoy it. Unencumbered by a to-do list of things to see and do, Amalfi is a magical town, easy to walk around and explore and sometimes that is the best way of spending your time.
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes where you can just sit, eat an ice cream and watch the world go by. Wander the narrow streets and discover an interesting shop or sample the local limoncello.
Walk to the waterfront and take a seat at one of the cafes or trattoria there and enjoy the beauty of doing nothing.
