Positano weather

Read our month by month rundown on the weather in Positano. Will it be hot enough for you or TOO hot?

Positano Weather

Positano weather January

January is not the most popular time of the year to visit Positano due to the fact that the weather in Positano at this time of the year is not great.

Most people are not going to visit Sorrento in January but………if you do and you want to know what the weather in January is like in Sorrento then expect it to be one of the coldest months.

Daily maximum temperatures are usually around 12°C/54°F whilst in the evening they can fall to 8°C/46°F. These are average temperatures so temperatures can be even lower in some years.

The sea is too cold to swim in at this time of the year and with a 50% chance of rain or cloud every day then it’s clear to see why January is not a popular month for tourists to visit.

Positano weather February

The weather in Positano in February isn’t much different to January to be honest with you. Day time temperatures may creep up a couple of degrees but evenings are still cold, as is the sea water.

There is still a 50/50 chance of rain or cloudy days at this time of the year.

Positano weather March

Positano weather in March still doesn’t show any significant improvement with temperatures. Maybe, you can expect 2 or 3 degrees warmer than January but it still leaves daytimes on the chilly side and evenings requiring warmer clothing.

March does give you a stronger likelihood of having a sunny day instead of a cloudy day though so things are starting to improve.

Positano weather April

Springtime in Positano brings with it the promise of warmer and sunnier days though you will still find days here on the cooler side.

Average temperatures are still only about 15°C or 16°C and the sea is still too cold to swim in.

You will find more sunny days but it would take a brave person to have a “beach day” in April in Positano.

Positano weather May

Finally…..the weather moves to a level where it becomes comfortable enough to entice you to visit Positano!!!

Average daily temperatures are around 19/20C° and although evenings may still necessitate another layer of clothing the days are generally very  pleasant.

Sea temperatures rise slightly and it becomes do-able to swim in the sea although it will still feel cold.

Positano weather June

What a difference a month makes! Positano weather in June is what you might expect from a summer season on the Amalfi coast.

Average temperatures in Positano are now comfortably reaching 23°C/ 73°F. Evenings are warm and balmy with average night time temperatures not dropping below 20°C and even the sea will have warmed up considerably making swimming in the waters very comfortable with bathing temperatures around 23°C!

Positano weather July

Approaching peak summer, the weather in Positano in July is hot, hot, hot.

Plenty of sunshine, average daily temperatures around 26°C or 27°C (and often hotter).

Swimming in the sea is like swimming in a heated pool.

Positano weather August

August is normally the hottest month of the year in Positano.

Average daily temperatures in Positano hover around 28°C but this excludes any heat spikes due to heatwaves.

If you’re after wall to wall sunshine, swim in the sea, sitting outside enjoying a cocktail then August is THE time to visit Positano.

Positano weather September

The temperatures drop off slightly in September in Positano. The middle of September onwards can be very pleasant with warm days without the intense heat of the sun pounding down.

Sea temperatures are still very comfortable to swim in and some of the crowds start to thin out from the peak summer months.

Rainy and cloudy days are still rare at this time of the year.

Positano weather October

October in Positano can be a very shrewd time of the year to visit as temperatures in October can still reach 20°C/21°C and it is still warm enough to swim in the sea.

Obviously, the later you travel in October the more the temperatures will drop but the first week or two of the month can still guarantee some pretty nice weather with the added bonus that most of the crowds have gone back home too!

Positano weather November

November in Positano can still be surprisingly nice with average temperatures around 17°C. Some hotels, restaurants and bars start to prepare for closing during the winter months and the tourist crowds have largely disappeared.

Positano still gets a lot of sunny days in November and the sea is still warm’ish enough to swim in.

Positano weather December

The weather in Positano in December is really pot luck. Average temperatures fall to about 13°C and even on sunny days it can feel pretty chilly.

The sea is too cold to swim in at this time of the year.

As more and more places shut down for the winter there becomes less and less things for you to do.
